The Damage Done

Thedamagedone

This amazing and emotionally debilitating book is a must read. The Damage Done is a collection of testimonies from patients, families, doctors and nurses describing the suffering caused by the absence of law for voluntary euthanasia. This book hits home more than once, and highlights the impracticality of Australian law. Why are people not allowed to die, but allowed to suffer?

Although not recommended for those dealing with grief after the death of a loved one, I found this book so compelling it was hard to put down. We were very lucky with mums passing as we all got to say our goodbyes and I will cherish those last moments forever. But those nights when she squirmed in pain for hours will also haunt me forever. This book bears witness to those who have suffered, those that have taken desperate measures and those that have been taken to court for following a loved ones wishes. I find it absolutely ridiculous that humans are sentenced to such a horrible ending. Why it is legal to put animals out of their misery when they experience horrible and incurable pain and not legal to do the same for humans? Even rapists are not sentenced to the amount of suffering we allow terminally ill people to endure.

This is definitely not a light read but a must read for those people who, like me, do not want to suffer; but die peacefully and with dignity when it comes to our time #katsnovelopinion for #litlovers #getlitwithkat
